Back story

In 2016, I co-founded Divvy it grew quickly, and the team was able to lead it to an acquisition in 2021. A couple of months after the acquisition, I realized the importance of earning my sleep every day. That was when Mckay and I started Tandem to help people who’ve done “it” invest in those doing “it.” Between Divvy and Tandem I did achieve three lifelong goals, so if you’re actually reading this, ask what those were, and I’ll gladly tell you the stories.

On the lookout

My investment thesis starts with 2 things at its core. Who are the founders? Why are they inspiring? Do I believe they are built for this ride they are on? The second is all about go-to-market (GTM). How are customers responding to the offering? If product market fit shows its head, then it’s all about scale, and that is something I can help with.

Back story

I’m an aspiring high school football coach who also happens to be a Managing Partner at Tandem Ventures. Prior to teaming up with Alex to start Tandem, I was a partner at Signal Peak Ventures. Before that, I spent nearly a decade at Portfolio Advisors, a $30B+ AUM private equity manager, based in Connecticut. I’m a big BYU fan and served a church mission in Korea. I got my undergraduate from SVU, where I loved playing football. I then went to NYU to earn an MBA and have since become a CFA Charterholder.

Back story

I have always loved sports from a young age. There was something competitive about that that really caught my attention. Basketball specifically. I loved watching the ball go in and wanted to do it repeatedly. So I worked hard and was able to earn a scholarship to BYU to play basketball. While there I became the National Player of the Year, our team made the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament and I hold several records at BYU. I then went on to get drafted in the NBA 10th overall and have a 12-year professional career. I am now playing 3×3 basketball and helping Team USA qualify for the 2024 Olympics. During my basketball career, I had an opportunity to invest in a lot of different ways, including tech and real estate. It gave me that same competitive feeling to find a great deal and win a great deal. This is what has drawn me into Tandem. To work with great people, help out the Utah echo system, and become the best investment firm we can be.

I look for a few different things before investing. The first and most important for me is the leadership of the company. I’m looking for people who are as competitive as me and can take a business to the next level. I am also looking for anyone who wants to invest in tech, real estate, and PE. I have been working a lot on growing our investor base at Tandem and am always willing to take meetings.

Back story

I’ve founded and operated various companies in different sectors, while also selectively investing and achieving really great outcomes. I actively operate and also participate in mentoring and board participation for select companies. I enjoy helping companies organize, scoping the broad, narrow, simple, complex intersection of people, products, markets and operations. People like me for my wholehearted approach to work. I am passionate about doing my best work, leaving my mark & adding shareholder value.

I’m most interested in pre-revenue businesses with strong usage data & post revenue businesses with commercial or scaling challenges. I like when I am surprised by unsuspecting traction in an idea, meet a technical founder who built their own MVP & see new digital product experiences that transform working, buying, and living. I’m adept with SaaS in the following categories: service providers, property, sales/marketing, energy, field services, mobile & vertical SaaS.

Back story

Before joining Tandem, I worked at JPMorgan in New York City. I’ve always been deeply interested in both public and private market investing—specifically in analyzing financials and uncovering where a company is truly headed. After a few years at JPM, I realized I wanted to join a smaller, more hands-on firm focused on early-stage investing—where I could apply my finance and strategy background to help founders scale from idea to a disruptive product. With a desire to return to Utah and plug back into its growing tech ecosystem, I connected with Tandem. What drew me in was the opportunity to work alongside highly skilled operators who’ve built and scaled companies before—people who’ve done it, now investing in those doing it. Prior to JPM, I earned a B.S. in Finance from Utah State University’s Huntsman School of Business.

On the lookout

I’m most excited by meeting founders who have a chip on their shoulder and are fully committed to proving themselves right. I love walking away from a meeting thinking, “This could be a big a market, but the product doesn’t totally make sense—yet.” That’s often a sign there’s something unique or contrarian worth digging into. A great product matters, but so does a clear understanding of your financial drivers and how they shape the business. Both are critical to building something enduring. When I see a founder who gets both, I want in.

Back story

I was the first intern at Tandem before it was anything more than conviction and a thesis. That’s where I caught the bug: backing people building things that don’t exist yet. I went on to join Partners Group, where I invested across software and infrastructure deals, including the Qualtrics take-private alongside Silver Lake, next-generation charging and last-mile delivery fleets at Gateway Fleets, and behind-the-meter power generation for data centers at Life Cycle Power. I enjoyed private equity, the people, the rigor, the companies. But I had an itch I couldn’t scratch: I wanted to be back at the beginning, backing founders building tomorrow rather than optimizing what already won.

Back story

I’m a BYU grad (Bachelors and Masters in Accounting) and a licensed CPA. I started out at Deloitte in SLC, where I spent my time working on financial audits and an IPO. Helping a company go public was eye-opening, but it made me realize I’d rather help build something than check the math at the finish line. That’s what led me to Tandem as the VP of Finance and Operations. I served a church mission in Mexico City and I’m obsessed with the Seahawks & BYU football.

I’m looking for people who are passionate about what they’re doing, and intentional about why they’re doing it. If you’ve got the “work hard, play hard” mentality and the drive to match, we’re going to get along great.
